Course DescriptionThe United States History course is an introduction to the history and historiography of the United States from the late fifteenth to the early twenty-first century. The course stresses those human achievements and failures that characterized United States civilization over the course of approximately five centuries. Topics in the political, economic, religious, social, and intellectual history of the nation are carefully examined. American art and geography are also emphasized. Students are encouraged to think and perform like interested scholars but also to find ways that the skills, content, and perceptions learned in the course can benefit them personally and relate to their authentic interests beyond the course.
